PR ambassadors: Thomas, James, and Percy
In an effort to increase support for Team GB as awareness of Kawasaki’s role as a host city grows, Thomas, James, and Percy have become PR ambassadors for the Team GB pre-Games training camps in Kawasaki based on cooperation with Sony Creative Products Inc. (headquartered in Tokyo Minato-ku, and represented by representative director, Hitoshi Hasegawa), which holds a master license for “Thomas & Friends”.
Starting April, 2019, Kawasaki will be using a “Thomas & Friends” PR design to further brew support momentum for Team GB throughout all of Kawasaki City with a variety of promotional materials including Team GB pre-Games training camp notifications, leaflets, posters, etc.
First-time collaboration with government
“Thomas the Tank Engine” is a character from a steam train picture book (called The Railway Series) created by Reverend Wilbert Awdry.The story is very popular with children and is set in the Island of Sodor where Thomas and his friends develop friendships going on a variety of adventures together.2020 will be the 75th anniversary of the original publication.
Main PR design to be used for promotion
In order of left to right, the names of the characters that appear in the main design are Percy, Thomas, and James. Each character represents one of the three colors of light – the same three colors of light used for Kawasaki brand messaging – and are designed to symbolize the friendship between Kawasaki and Great Britain.
These PR designs will be used on a variety of promotional materials including notifications for Team GB pre-Games training camps related events, leaflets, posters, etc.
