[Yokohama City] Students at Higashi-yamata Elementary School organize a surprise send-off for the British National Swimming Team who had their pre-Games training camp at Yokohama International Swimming Pool!

On Tuesday, July 20, the British Swimming Olympic Team, who have had their pre-Games training camp at Yokohama International Swimming Pool, left for the Olympic Village in Tokyo. On the last training day at the pool, students in the 5th & 6th grade at Higashi-yamata Elementary School sent off the team as a surprise at their school playground.

All athletes and staff of the British Swimming Team who were about to leave by the shuttle bus were so surprised at the unexpected send-off by the children.

Students waved at the athletes, shouting “GO GB!!” by the fence, and the athletes smiled and waved back.

It was a short time, but all the students were excited by this valuable opportunity to see Olympic athletes up close.
