[Yokohama City] Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Education Program Authorized Schools in Tsuzuki ward participated in an online exchange with the British National Swimming Team.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games are around the corner, and the British National Swimming Team has been holding their pre-Games training camp at Yokohama International Swimming Pool since July 12.

Yokohama City hosted some exchange program, and students at Higashi-yamata Elementary School, Kita-yamata Elementary School and Ushikubo Elementary School joined the program such as online exchange. The students also wrote lively messages on the flags including GO GB flags to be conveyed to the team.

■Online Exchange
The online exchange between the children at elementary schools in Yokohama and the British National Swimming team was held, and 5th graders at Kita-yamata Elementary School and 5th & 6th graders at Ushikubo Elementary School participated in the program.


All the students had a valuable opportunity to ask questions to the athletes directly and cheer on the team.

■Flags with children’s messages
5th & 6th graders at Higashi-yamata Elementary School, 1st to 6th graders at Kita-yamata Elementary School and 5th & 6th graders at Ushikubo Elementary School wrote welcome messages to cheer on the team on the flags. There were three kinds of flags: GO GB, Union Jack and Tsuzuki ward, and we prepared 14 flags in total.


During the camp, we displayed the flags in the team training area, and the children’s messages surely gave the team more power. The flags were sent to the team when they left for the Olympic Village.
